Reporting an Incident

The Red Folder is a resource available to faculty and staff that provides information on common indicators of student distress. This resource offers in-the-moment process tips on how to best help a student in distress by providing a decision tree and detailed list of campus resources.

The Tiger Concern Report is used to document behavior that a RIT community member may perceive as concerning, worrisome, or threatening. Tiger Concern Reports are reviewed by the Student Behavior Consultation Team (SBCT). Reported concerns are reviewed throughout the day during regular business hours. If you feel that someone could be in immediate danger, including yourself, please contact RIT Public Safety immediately at 585-475-3333 or call 911.

Title IX Includes gender discrimination, sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual violence, stalking, dating and domestic violence. If you have questions about whether a behavior might be considered a violation, please contact the Title IX Coordinator.

RIT’s Ethics and Compliance Hotline provides a simple way for RIT students, faculty and staff to anonymously report activities that may involve misconduct or violations of university policies or applicable regulations or contractual obligations. This hotline is independently operated for RIT by EthicsPoint—a third-party vendor—to maintain the anonymity of those who report irregularities or concerns.  Although RIT’s Ethics and Compliance Hotline may also be used to notify RIT of harassment and discrimination concerns, including Title IX violations (gender discrimination, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment and sexual violence), it is highly encouraged that these incidents be reported to Human Resources, RIT Title IX Coordinators, RIT Public Safety or one of the confidential resources available.

Report an Irregularity or Concern  

RIT is committed to creating and maintaining a campus environment free from unlawful discrimination and harassment.  Acts of discrimination and harassment are in opposition to the university’s values and have no place in our community.  The university aims to foster a welcoming environment for all members of the campus community by modeling, supporting, and educating the RIT community on our mission and values, which are centered on inclusion, diversity, and equity.    

A bias incident is an act of discrimination, harassment, intimidation, violence, or criminal offense committed against any person, group, or property that is motivated by prejudice or bias toward another’s race, religion, age, citizenship, color, creed, culture (including Deaf culture), actual or perceived disabilities, gender, marital status, ethnic or national origin, political affiliation or preference, military or veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or genetic predisposition. Expressions vary, and can be in the form of language, words, signs, symbols, threats, or actions that could potentially cause alarm, anger, fear, or resentment in others, or that endanger the health, safety, and welfare of a member(s) of the community, even when presented as a joke.

We all are human and have unconscious biases, and so must beware, despite our best intentions.  We as a community are accountable as individuals and to each other for our conduct.  We wish to encourage open lines of communication between the members of our community and the university to ensure that all feel comfortable reporting any incidents of bias that they may experience or observe, without fear of retaliation.
