Leadership
Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts at RIT!
We sit at the heart of RIT’s mission, helping all students advance the exceptional through coursework, research opportunities, and academic programs that instill an understanding of the world around us and promote critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and effective communication.
Personalized, forward-thinking programs
At RIT’s College of Liberal Arts, our forward-thinking degree programs provide you the opportunity to integrate liberal arts disciplines with the technical skills and creativity necessary to solve the highly complex challenges you’ll face throughout your career. These multifaceted problems require solutions that encompass a diversity of thought and perspective as well as inclusive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative approaches. To this end, we encourage our students to create unique combinations of programs—adding a double major or minor, completing co-ops and internships, and studying abroad. This approach allows you to tailor your academic experiences around meaningful interests and goals, while setting yourself up for career success upon graduation and throughout your professional life.
Connections across the Rochester region and beyond
Additionally, our partnerships with organizations across the Rochester region and throughout the Northeast allow you to make a real-world impact in the community, as well as gain hands-on experience in your field. These connections with local businesses, museums, non-profits and other organizations provide co-op and internship experiences for students in a variety of majors, as well as set rich backdrops for exciting research and collaborative projects that have an immediate benefit to our community.
Renowned faculty scholars
Faculty in the College of Liberal Arts are well-respected scholars, contributing to the body of knowledge in their disciplines and collaborating with colleagues across the university, as well as around the world, to explore the intersections of science and technology with the humanities and social sciences. They delve into the pressing issues facing our society today, and help to develop real, workable solutions that take into account the ethical, social, cultural, political and economic factors necessary for these solutions to succeed.
Excellence in teaching and community
Our small class sizes and 4:1 student-to-faculty ratio enable us to deliver meaningful classroom experiences that include discussion-based learning and interactive lessons taught by over 150 full-time faculty. Students in our College enjoy collaborative relationships with their professors who act as both teachers and mentors, providing support and connections throughout their time at RIT and beyond.
Perhaps most importantly, this is a place where people care about one another and advance principles of inclusive excellence. The students, faculty and staff in the College of Liberal Arts come from diverse backgrounds and value compassion, empathy, and respect for their fellow Tigers, advocating for those who need their voices amplified and enjoying a special camaraderie within the university. It is my hope that you’ll find yourself at home here, and that joining our community will enable you to accomplish all that you set out to do.
Warm regards,
Dean Anna
